The city of Spokane, Washington, led by Mayor Nadine Woodward, is seeking to quickly create more opportunities for local businesses to survive and thrive economically during the pandemic.

The city announced on Wednesday that its Restaurant and Retail Expansion Program is establishing a provisional permit program, meaning businesses would immediately receive the permit following a combined on-site inspection.

The application process would continue with a 10-day public comment period and the issuance of a “standard” permit.

“We know the ongoing economic impact of COVID-19 is challenging our local businesses like never before. We are continually looking for ways we can support them and adjusting whenever we can,” Spokane Mayor Nadine Woodward said.

Right now, the city is also temporarily waiving fees for sidewalk cafés and streateries.
